Supply chain support at Sligro
"I was fine in my spot at the moment and wasn't really looking for anything new. NextGen offered me the chance to work on a project basis. That meant I could look inside different companies and would have to step out of my comfort zone a bit. That appealed to me so much that I made the switch anyway."
In the spring of 2018, Reinier started at Sligro through NextGen. "It's a company that really runs on logistics. Very technically savvy in systems, so it was important for me to master those systems as quickly as possible so I could relieve some of the workload in the department. I worked here on maintaining the logistics setup."
Cost reduction research
That cooperation pleased both sides: the assignment was extended and, in consultation with NextGen, it was decided that Reinier would follow a Green Belt path. "In early 2019, I was able to start working within Sligro on my own project with the transport manager. Sligro has a number of distribution centers, stores throughout the country, and recently they also became responsible for Heineken logistics. All in all, that's a lot of trucks going back and forth. My assignment was to identify opportunities for cost reduction in that."
Self-development is always valuable
"The Green Belt program was an important added value for me, also considering what is demanded in the market. Apart from that, of course, a bit of self-development is always valuable. There is plenty of opportunity for discussion with other NextGen people, which I experienced as very positive. It allows for self-reflection, taking a break from your daily work and taking the time to ask yourself why you are doing something. That benefits your work."

Work-life balance
"The work on my Green Belt project is now complete and I am thinking hard about whether I want to do a new course in addition to my work. Something in the direction of project management appeals to me, but I'm still in doubt about the time investment that that requires in addition to my work and my family with young children. I have agreed with Frank that we will discuss this further in a few months. At NextGen you are in the lead to make your own decisions. The balance between work and home is paramount, because if that's right you're happy on all fronts."
